Atlanta Airport

The Atlanta Airport

The Atlanta Airport, also known by many as Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport, is currently considered as the second busiest airport in the world. It has long been known as a major connecting hub serving a number of destinations around the globe. And, in recent years, the Atlanta Airport has had the benefit from large investment which resulted in anew $300 million international concourse, as well as a vast facelift for the domestic concourses and terminal building.

Speaking of terminal building, the Atlanta Airport has one terminal building divided into two major image areas: the Terminal North and Terminal South. Each area has its own access and parking lots.

The Terminal North

The Terminal North of Atlanta Airport was basically designed to serve non-Delta US carriers and long-haul services for overseas airlines. As noted, the check-in facilities in this terminal is just similar to that in the South, but many people considered it as a calmer kind of place. Also, the Terminal North has its own baggage claim area, but it shares the Arrivals concourse which provides way to ground transportation to the city of Atlanta, car rental pickups, hotels and parking lots.

The Terminal South

Busy and bustling at peak times, the Terminal South of the Atlanta Airport is specifically dominated by Delta Air Lines who fly 75 per cent of the traffic from the airport. It is also worth noting that some of their code-share partners and a couple of carrier to the Caribbean also operate there. Just like the Terminal North, it has its own baggage claim area and its check-in facilities mirror those in the North. Parking lots and a wide access to ground transportation to city, hotels and car rental pickups are also available.

Outside from terminals, the Atlanta Airport has a number of departure gates that are located at the terminal. There are the T Gates Concourse and five additional Concourses. It is worthy to note that the Concourses of the Atlanta Airport are generally reached by the city's own subway train system. Here are the airport's Concourses along with their specific purposes:

* Concourse T - is for Delta, American and United flights.
* Concourse A - is a Delta concourse.
* Concourse B - is also for Delta flights.
* Concourse C - is for ASA, which is a Delta Connection partner plus AirTran and Frontier Airlines flights.
* Concourse D - is for most of the domestic flights in the Atlanta airport, except the American and United flights.
* Concourse E - is the concourse intended for international flights. Thus all international flights depart and arrive here.

Car Parking Difficulty

The Atlanta Airport is now getting bigger and bigger. However, car parking is still a difficulty in the area as the number of available spaces struggle to keep up the growing boom of the passengers. Many who have been there have noted that hunting down a place to park can take up to 30 minutes, but the Atlanta Airport is trying to improve the situation. Today, the Atlanta Airport is encouraging the users out to the long term lots by way of increasing the overnight rates in the Hourly parking lots.
