Visiting The Georgia Aquarium In Atlanta

Visiting The Georgia Aquarium In Atlanta

If being outside or shopping is not on the agenda, you might enjoy the Georgia Aquarium. Not only is this the largest aquarium around the country, but it is also the most entertaining. Family's can sit for hours watching the marine life on webcams or right up front and personal. The entire aquarium holds a little over eight million gallons of marine water and fresh water. The displays are spectacular and engaging. People come from everywhere to see this incredible sight. You will find hours upon hours of enjoyment at the aquarium. The aquarium is home to Deepo, who is the mascot of the aquarium and just turned two this year.

If you happen to be at the aquarium on a Friday night during the summer, you can enjoy the music Jazz Journeys. This is another advantage for the already spectacular aquarium that has been rated one of the top ten places to visit with kids. The webcams show you videos of the zebra shark pups. The aquarium is proud to be able to show you the first pictures of the little ones and offer behind the scene tours of the zebra sharks. You can also visit the Chilly Unknown and see the weedy sea dragon, sea otter, leafy sea dragon, octopus, damselfish and the Beluga whale. The penguins are another funny attraction to watch.

Then visit the Discover our Coast for a peek at the redhorse sucker, right whale, Loggerhead sea turtle, crabs, sea star, Cownose ray and the Bonnethead shark. After seeing the entire collection of marine life take a walk over to the Journey with Giants display. You will see the whale shark, giant grouper, zebra shark, sawfish and the Humphead wrasse. Where else could you possibly see so many different creatures?

Next, you will want to visit the Coral Kingdom for a look at the butterfly fish, seahorse, moon jelly, garden eel, surgeonfish and the mandarin fish. The Coral Kingdom is one great display you do not want to miss. It is just so spectacular that you wonder how in the world these creatures survived all these years. With all these displays, you will want to take the entire day to see everything. At times it is just so peaceful, to just sit and watch the movements of the marine life in an environment similar to their own.

There are some general rules to follow while visiting the aquarium, which includes not bringing in food and beverages, come way before the aquarium closes, at least an hour or you will not be permitted inside and plan on having a security check done upon entrance to the aquarium. One thing that interests people is that you cannot bring any gum into the aquarium, so plan for this as well. The Georgia Aquarium is a smoke free public place and this is enforced by security. Bring socks along for the kids so they can play in the children's play area in the Georgia Explore play area and take plenty of pictures.
