Andros Bahamas

Andros Bahamas: Largely Explored

Featuring a huge creek system, mangrove-choked, bights, inlets and bays, Andros of the Bahamas is the biggest island. It maybe considered the largest, with vast resources and attractions to take pleasure in yet Andros Bahamas is also the island that is least explored.

This solely means that your adventures with this island are moments with terns and tree ducks than party animals. Apart from that, you will also be sharing an exclusive moment with the mythical inhabitants of the island.

Andros Bahamas is reputed to have elfin creatures with three toes, red eyes and three fingers. They also believe that anyone who will be seeing creatures such this gets a good luck to life. The island has also its own dragon-like sea monster named as Lusca.

Spaniards back then called Andros Bahamas the Holy Spirit Island or La Isla del Espiritu Santo. As a lot of people started to reside Andros, settlements like Nichols Creek, Mastic Point and Staniard Creek occurred being the first communities. Once there was an overcrowded settlement to these places and then people started migrating to other places of the island like Fresh Creek and Red Bay. In the beginning, the pioneers tried to cultivate the land of Andros Bahamas. However, since the land lacks fertile soil, that led the people to venture into another form of trade.

The residents found out trades like fishing, sponging, fabric crafting, woodcarving and basket weaving. This turned to be a unique feature of the culture of Andros Bahamas inhabitants. One perfect example of a culture that flourishes on Andros is the Red Bay community.

Off the coast of Red Bay's clear sandy beaches, ocean harvesting is what eats up most of the time of the natives. The sponges undergo a unique cleaning and drying process, preparing to be traded worldwide. One of the most significant means of income of the residents is the sponge finishing.

Andros Bahamas also holds the second biggest reef in the area of western hemisphere. This is why it is highly popular to divers since some of the world's deepest diving cave expeditions are found here. In its interior waterways, one can find large schools of making bonefish, making the place a perfect fishing location. Andros is therefore hailed the world's bone fishing capital.

Scuba diving and snorkeling are also good activities besides bird watching. Casual is the operative statement for Andros Bahamas. The unleashed island has indeed so much more to offer. Beyond its size lies an uncanny paradise.
