Key West Charter Fishing

The Key West is paradise for most anglers. No wonder many come to this paradise of an island; if not to enjoy the city's many attractions, then to have a ton of fishing fun.

Key West charter fishing is especially a favorite among the angling crowd. But while there are many fishing boats, charter captains, and guides in Key West, there are even more anglers. So booking your Key West charter fishing vacation early is advised.

Below are some Key West charter fishing DOs and DON'Ts to get by:

DOs

* Have fun! Well, yes, of course! Isn't that the point? Whether you consider yourself a serious angler or a bumbling beginner out on his first Key West charter fishing trip, the bottom line is that you are out there in the big blue ocean because you want to catch fish and have fun while doing it.

* Stay Safe. Whatever you do, whatever kind of fishing you prefer, safety should always be your number one concern. That said, choose a Key West charter fishing captain whose motto is more or less includes "safety first." If you've been charter fishing before, you know how unpredictable the ocean can be. So safety is an important issue that you should never overlook.

* Know where the floatation devices are located. This is actually corollary to the "safety" rule, before you leave dock, everyone on board should know where the personal floatation devices (PFDs) are located.

* Book your trip in advance. We said it before and we say it again: book your trip dates ahead. Just imagine planning everything up to a point only to arrive in Key West and realize that there aren't any Key West charter fishing boats left for you. That's one vacation ruined right there. Don't let it happen.

* Consider the food. You're probably going to take awhile out there in the sea before the specks start biting. And waiting begets hunger. Prepare for such a situation by bringing your own food and drinks on your Key West charter fishing trip. Alternatively, you can also ask for catering options in advance.

DON'Ts

* Don't wait until the last minute to book your Key West charter fishing boat. Ah, we said it again. The advantage of booking in advance is that you are free to choose which boats you prefer. Whereas, if you book at the last minute, there's a very high chance there won't even be any boats left.

* Don't act recklessly on the Key West charter fishing boat. Remember the safety rule? You can still have fun without going overboard…literally.

* Don't forget: sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, rain gear, etc. These things can save your life. Seriously.

So now that you know the do's and don'ts when on a Key West charter fishing trip, we reiterate the first rule: HAVE FUN!
