Cathedrale of Notre Dame de Paris: A Must Visit Attraction

Are you in the process of planning a trip to Paris? If so, the large number of attractions and historical landmarks may have attracted you. With so much to do and see, you may have a difficult time deciding which places to visit. One stop that you should make is to the Cathedrale of Notre Dame de Paris.

The Cathedrale of Notre Dame de Paris is a practicing Roman Catholic church. It is one of the largest and most known churches in the world. At this time, many may scratch this attraction off their to-do list, but you don't have to. Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to visit. You don't have to be Christian to the enjoy this beautiful piece of history.

The Cathedrale of Notre Dame de Paris is open all year round. During this time, you can visit independently for a tour or participate in regularly scheduled church services.

An organized visit is recommended, as these hour-long tours are free of charge. During your tour, you will visit and discuss the works of art housed inside of Cathedrale of Notre Dame de Paris. These works of art include stained glass, architecture, and paintings. Although guided tours are encouraged, independent tours with the use of an audio guide are available for a small fee. Should you have any questions, you will always find a knowledgeable and helpful employee nearby.

As previously stated, you will see paintings, stained glass, and various forms of architecture on a visit to the Cathedrale of Notre Dame de Paris. Other pieces of interest include the great organ, the choir organ, and large stained glass windows. The South Rose window and the Cloister stain glass windows are even more beautiful when viewed in person.

A visit the cathedral's treasury and towers is recommended. At the Cathedrale of Notre Dame de Paris Treasury, you can view objects made of gold. Many of which were crafted in the 17th and 18th centuries. Admission fees and hours do vary, so verify this information beforehand.

As for the Cathedrale of Notre Dame de Paris Towers, visit them for a breathtaking view of Paris. Not only that, but you can take in the marvel wonder of the architecture. You can see the Emmanuel Bell from the top. You will also see the tower façade up close, where you can view gargoyles and others dating back to the 13th century. As with a visit to the Treasury, varied rates and hours do apply. There are no elevators inside, so a walk to the top is required and that journey can be long. There are 387 steps total.

The Cathedrale of Notre Dame de Paris is also home to the Archaeological Crypt of Parvis de Notre-Dame. In 1965, various buildings in Paris were evacuated. Pieces of these buildings and the treasures they housed inside are located here. The Musee Carnavalet, a well-known museum located nearby, maintains the site.

As a reminder, the Cathedrale of Notre Dame de Paris is a Roman Catholic church; however, you do not have to share the same religious beliefs to enjoy a visit to the church. Although many exhibits and displays are impacted by religion, you can learn a lot about the history of Paris from visiting. And, the view from the top will leave you breathless and that is due to the beauty not the 387 stair climb!
