Greece Religion

Long before we saw portraits of angels and devils, gods and goddesses roam the earth. Greece had them, taking after the human form, but possessing magical powers nevertheless.

The ancient Greeks were pious people. The Greece religion around that time was centered on worshipping gods. These gods were said to be a lot like the normal people except for their special powers and timeless beauty. The Greece religion knows of several gods and goddesses who all possess different magical capabilities and strengths. However, Zeus was considered the most powerful among them. No matter how powerful Zeus was, he never acted alone. All the others were just as important in the ancient Greece religion as Zeus was.

This early form of worship reminds me of the modern-day superheroes. Sure, we all have our own favorites. Batman has his car, Spiderman has his web, and Superman practically possesses all necessary powers. But each of them gets to save the day. The gods in the ancient Greece religion though were unmindful of the good and bad. They help those whom they personally favor. And how do people win them over? They love gifts. And the best gift one can give is an animal sacrifice.

Greece religion in ancient times was said to be some sort of paganism. And as with the other types of pagan worships, theirs also identify the feminine side of holiness. No religion can be considered as pagan unless there are goddesses as well.

In the modern-day Greece, a huge percent of its population is devout to a single Greece religion - the Greek-Orthodox. Unlike before, Greeks do not bow down to human-like gods and goddesses, but, they all believe in one Supreme Being and several saints. They still recognize female divinity through the Virgin Mary, or as they call her - Panagia.

The Greece religion has interesting facts. Their priests, who are all male, are allowed to have wives for as long as they were married before they started serving the church. Churches abound Greece, and they come in all shapes and sizes. These churches are filled with icons and are all named after their respective patron saints. Sundays are church days, and every member of this Greece religion makes it a point to attend these masses. There are numerous special masses all throughout the year, and all these are reasons to gather in the churches to hear masses.

The modern Greeks may not offer Olympic Games in honor of the gods they worship, or slaughter animals to win them over. But, even in the absence of these kinds of rituals, Greeks still openly express their devotion to the current Greece religion through highly humane and less barbaric sacrifices.
