Why The Big Island Of Hawaii?

Of all the islands of Hawaii, why visit the Big Island? We could give you a few reasons.

1. It is the only island in Hawaii wherein you can go skiing.
Mount Mauna Kea is considered as the highest sea mountain with its peak sticking so high above the surface that it can afford to give its visitors a great view of the skies. Because of its height also, its peak can be expected to be covered in snow in the winter time making it perfect for skiing and other winter sports. Now what other Hawaiian Island can offer you that?

2. It has a volcano museum that features not one! Not two! But THREE active volcanoes!
These three volcanoes are Mauna Loa, Kilauea which has been erupting non stop since 1983 and gives off molten lava every now and then and Loihi, an underwater volcano beauty. But there is nothing dangerous in visiting these volcanoes for they are shield volcanoes, a type of volcano that gives off fluid lava. The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, there these babies are found, is not only a fascinating place but educational as well.

3. It is home to Hawaii's biggest restored ancient temple that is religious in origin.
No other Hawaiian island can let you see this important Hawaiian treasure. The Puukohola Haiku is located at the South Kohala in the Big Island of Hawaii and is supposed to be one among the last religious structures built before the westerns were able to come to the island. This Heiau, the Hawaiian term for temple, is built not just to serve as a place of worship but also as a sacred temple for Kukailimoku, the war god of the Hawaiians. This temple is an offer to the war god to help Kamehameha the Great to aid him in his quest to bring together the islands of Hawaii. His wish has finally came true when he was able to do so in 1810.

4. The Big Island has the Waipio Valley in its territory.
The Waipio Valley, also known to many as the "Valley of the King"s for it is the home to one of the Hawaiian Kings King Kamahameha - when he was a boy, became the heart of not just the religious life of Hawaii but also its political life. The Waipio Valley is can be located at the north part of the Hamakua Coast. Once called home by thousands of locals, the valley is now home of only a few hundred of Hawaiians. What makes the Waipoi Valley special aside from its rich culture and important role in the history of Hawaii is its magnificent and one of a kind beauty. The Valley of the Kings is home Hiilawe Falls, a great body of water that falls 1,300 feet in the rear of Waipio.

5. It has quaint little picturesque towns that will delight your stay
The Big Island of Hawaii boasts of Hilo and Kona Coast, two quiet little towns that are picturesque and rich in culture. These towns may be small but they offer a lot to their visitors. Sight seeing, culture, water, land and sky adventures, shopping, unique cuisines, these are just few of the reasons why tourists love visiting the Big Island of Hawaii over and over and over again.
