This year, 2008, the adults will dominate the stage and they will perpetuate Maori culture's waira spirit. National and local competitors grace the eloquent stage and each competitor is able to display their heritage. You can also expect competitors coming from Australia and London this year. How will the winner be chosen? Judges will rate the competitors according to their attire or kahahu, composition of original songs or waita hou, female leaders or manukura wahine, and the male leaders or manukura tane. Aside from the Maori competition, performers can also join choral competitions (Waiata Tira) and speech competitions (Whaikorero). In the last two competitions, the performers will be rated according to their entrance or whakaeke, traditional chanting or moteatea, action songs or waiata-a-ringa, and the exit or whakawatea.



The event will take place this August 2008 from nine in the morning until two in the afternoon. Adult admission will cost $8 while the children (5-15 years of age) will cost $6 per head. If you bring kids younger than five, the entrance will be free. Those tourists or visitors who bring cars can park at the Center's parking lot for $5.
