What could be a more reliable newspaper than that which started bringing information way back 1785? The answer -- one that makes it to Britain's "newspaper of record". And a newspaper great enough to be both is the London Times.

The Times, otherwise known as "Times of London" or "London Times" outside the United Kingdom, is a publication of the Times Newspapers Limited, a News International subsidiary. The Sunday Times, UK's Sunday newspaper, is the London Times' sister paper.

As a national newspaper, London Times is published everyday in the UK. It was founded in 1785 as The Daily Universal Register, but only got its name (The Times) in 1788. For the most part of its history, London Times has been in Britain's newspaper of record, earning the honor to be preserved in UK's national library, the British Library. It was also politically influential and was responsible in motivating public opinion regarding foreign issues.

The London Times was using the broadsheet layout for about 200 years. It changed to the compact format in 2004 so as to appeal to its young readers. A U.S. edition was announced in May 2006, and publication started June 6, 2006.

As of November 2005, the London Times' average circulation was 692,581 copies every day. This figure is the highest so far under Robert Thomson, its current editor. It has long been regarded as the United Kingdom's newspaper of record, and is viewed by some people as a newspaper with a great quality of journalism.

Further enhancement to the London Time's reputation is its being named as the United Kingdom's premier newspaper for people with business interests by the British Business Survey 2005. This was an independent survey conducted under the sponsorship of the London Times, The Economist, The Financial Times, The Daily Telegraph, and The Guardian. National readership survey shows that the London Times has garnered the most readers among all the quality newspapers in London.

The Times' major supplement is the T2 which features different lifestyle columns. Crème is a supplement intended for secretaries, PA's, and those who work as administrative support. The Times Magazine supplements Saturday edition, and features various subjects like fashion, celebrities, food, and anecdotes. The Knowledge is also included in the Saturday issue and includes current topics on Entertainment, and TV/Radio. Lifestyle talk is in the Saturday supplementary called Body and Soul.

The London Times has not been in existence for nothing. It has served its purpose of bringing journalism of high standard into each of its readers' life.
