In New York, it's called a subway. In London, it's the Tube.

London is one of the busiest and most populated cities in the world. The economic boom of the city has spelled the need to develop a mass transport system able to service millions of passengers everyday of the work week. It's hard to spend a weekday in London without being stuck in traffic. If you belong to the riding public – it's worse. You'd have to contend with millions of people who are trying to get that bus or train seat.

Locals have been wondering why The Tube cannot operate 24/7 when the city of London itself is fast becoming a 24-hour city. Unlike the New York subway that has four tunnels, the London Tube only has two tunnels. It's hard to pursue operations and fix a problem in the train at the same time without the train being put to a halt. Repairs are done only at night so that operations can go smoothly during the day. Also, a local law mandates that the tube be checked every 48 hours. This can be quite hard when operations are pushed to a 24/7 schedule.

The company that operates the London Tube, however, contact night buses and taxis to go on standby to service passengers. The London Tube is an essential part of the great transport network in London and upgrades are currently on going to better serve the riding public. After all, Londoners consider the tube as the easiest and fastest way to get around London having 275 stations dotted across the entire city with 63 in Central London.

The London Tube begins service every few minutes beginning 5:30 a.m. until 12:30 midnight the following day from Monday to Saturday, and between 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Sundays. The trains and platforms are referred to as Northbound, Eastbound, Southbound, and Westbound. There would be instances wherein you need to switch lines to get to your destination.

The maximum fare that would be charged on you in the London Tube is £4-5 but you can purchase prepaid fares to get discounts in Tube fares.
