All Inclusive Cozumel Vacation

An island in the beautiful Yucatan Peninsula of southeastern Mexico, Cozumel is affectionately known as the floating gem of the Mexican Caribbean. As Mexico's largest island, Cozumel has two claims to fame: One is that it is the seat of a colorful Mayan heritage and second is that its rich coral reefs is one of Mexico's biggest diving attraction.

Getting There

The island is roughly an hour away from Playa del Carmen if you take a boat ride. If you're leaving from Cancun, Denver or Houston, the Cozumel International Airport receives direct flights from these cities. There are also cruise ships that come here but claims have been made about how these ships are the inevitable cause of some coral damage.

Getting Around

You shouldn't have too much trouble looking for ways to get around during your all inclusive Cozumel vacation. Most resorts offer hotel boats to get you to famous dive sites and also offer shuttle services. But if you want to do a little tour on your own, then be sure to check the docks for car rentals or scooters. Alternatively, taxis are also available. They can take you to the west shore beach and are cheaper than most car rentals.

Things to Do

Indeed, the island's limestone shore and temperate, crystal clear waters provides the perfect compliment to Cozumel's fabled coral reefs. Some places of interest are the famous cenotes of the spectacular Dos Ojos Cave System which snorkelers and divers love. The Villa Blanca Wall is another great diving site for all inclusive Cozumel vacationers. Here you will find colorful parrotfish, spiny urchins, juvenile trunkfish, and brittle starfish.

Next to diving, Cozumel is one of those Mexican destinations where ancient ruins are a common sight. However, if you want to make your all inclusive Cozumel vacation truly memorable, you might want to consider visiting the famous San Gervasio Ruins located just off the Cross Island Highway on Isla Cozumel. Many guests consider the San Gervasio the most rewarding and accessible of all ruins. Wit major Mayan causeways connecting the structures, you can explore this ancient ruin fairly easy, including the temple of Ix Chel, a small but well preserved shrine to an ancient god.
