The city of Chicago is the largest in the state of Illinois and the whole Midwest region. The population is over 300 million, which makes it the third largest city in the United States. The city is rich in history and considered one of the ten most influential cities in the world. In 2006, Chicago welcomed over 44.17 million tourists. It is no surprise that so many people visit Chicago. There are many restaurants, museums, stores, and much more. There is something to do for the whole family.

A popular tourist stop happens to be the famous, Sears Tower. It has been the tallest building in the United States since 1973. It has 108 stories, with antennas making the tower over 1,730 feet. The Sears Tower Skydeck was first opened in 1974, which is located on the 103rd floor of the tower. Tourists can get to the Skydeck in under a minute by the special elevators. When the skies are perfect, you can see the plains in Illinois, and even across Lake Michigan. If you are visiting on a windy day, don't be surprised if the building sways. Some days the 103rd floor Skydeck is closed, so there is another Skydeck available on the 99th floor. Be sure to check out the highest point in the whole state of Illinois. It is a memorable experience.

Chicago offers a variety of museums. One that is a must-see is the Field Museum of Natural History. It happens to be the most popular cultural attraction in the city. The museum is part of what is known as the Museum Campus Chicago that is located next to Lake Michigan. The Field Museum of Natural History offers many exhibits. If you enjoy animals, the museum has exhibits on many mammals and their habitats which you can get a close view of. Besides animals, you can see exhibits about ancient Egyptians, where there are 23 human mummies on display. There are also exhibits on China and Tibet where traditional clothing is available to see. An exhibit that is an additional charge to view is the Underground Adventure. The exhibit "shrinks" visitors to the size of a penny. Being that size, you will get to see what soil and insects look like.

Another attraction that is located in the Museum Campus of Chicago is the Shed Aquarium. It opened in 1930, and was once the largest aquarium in the world. It is the 2nd most popular attraction in the city. You will find many types of fish, marine mammals, birds, snakes, insects, and more! One area in the aquarium is known as "whale harbor". Shows are put on everyday for visitors to enjoy. The tank is over 2 million gallons of water and the back is a wall of clear windows that look out towards Lack Michigan making wonderful scenery.

If you are in the mood for shopping, Navy Pier is the perfect spot. It is located on the Chicago shoreline of Lake Michigan. Besides stores and restaurants, you will find that the Navy Pier has a 150 foot tall Ferris wheel, Children's Museum, and an IMAX Theater. If you visit during certain times of the year, you will be able to see the beautiful fireworks display that happens above.
