Niagara Falls is in between the international border of the United States and Canada. This city was originally called Elgin. In 1856 the community emerged with Clifton and was known by that name until 1881 when the name was changed to Niagara Falls. In 1904 the community was incorporated as a city and in 1963 the city was vastly expanded when it combined with Stamford Township.
