Lladro began as a diminutive family workshop during the middle of the 1950's in Almácera, a small agricultural district close to Valencia City on the Eastern Mediterranean coast of Spain. Three brothers, Juan, José, and Vicente started to commit their spare time making ceramics as a way of advancing their vision for the future. The brothers joined the Valencia School of Arts and Crafts, where Vicente obtained sculpture lessons and Juan and José learned painting and drawing.
