Take out your calendar and keep an open mind. What days can you travel? The more flexible you can be about your vacation days, the better deals you will find.

2. Ask for discounts. Some discounts are easy to find. If you are a student, for instance, check to see if your school has an STA travel office, or if it offers any other sort of travel discounts. Student discounts can save you loads on your vacation. If you qualify for Senior discounts, you may also qualify for several substantial discounts. Simply write to the travel, chamber of commerce, or tourism office of your destination and request free visitor information.

7. Travel off-season. Summer is the peak travel season for most destinations, and the prices you pay for accommodation and airfare will probably reflect this. If you travel in the off-seasonâ€"fall, for most destinationsâ€"will afford you better room rates and airfare. Also, attractions will be less crowded, and if you go in early fall, the weather will be perfect.
