Also, because many RVs come with full-service kitchenettes, RV's can save you money on food as well. Simply make a stop at the grocery or convenience store and make your own lunch.

Seven Things to Do Before You Buy a RV

Are you convinced about the pros of traveling RV-style? Before you run out and purchase a RV, here are a few tips to getting more acquainted to these road warrior vehicles.

1. Rent before you buy. Before you make the investment, take the time to rent an RV to make sure this mode of travel is the right type for you and your family. Take a short weekend trip to get to know the feel of being behind the wheel of an RV. Try out the kitchen, the bathroom, and the sleeping quarters. If you can afford it, make several short trips in different RV makes and models to get a feel for the different kinds of RVs that are available.

2. Determine what kind of features you need and want. How big does the RV have to be to accommodate your family comfortably? What sort of amenities would you like? Make a list of the things you absolutely must have, and shop accordingly.

3. Visit your local RV dealer to get an idea of prices and features. Visit a RV dealership at least once before you make a purchase. Get to know the different makes and models, and take out your top choices on test drives.

4. Visit your local library. There are many RV buyers' guides that are must reading for anyone on the RV market.

5. Get to know RV parks and campgrounds. Before purchasing or even renting a RV, become acquainted with the RV parks and campgrounds that dot the United States. RV parks and campgrounds can vary wildly regarding amenities, size, and cost. Look through a directory of RV campgrounds (search your local library or bookstore) and get to know the different places you will be staying if you buy a RV.

6. Before you buy, look for the seal. The Recreational Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) certifies all RVs that meet its standards of safety. The RVIA certifies all vehicles that meet certain national safety specifications with an oval-shaped RVIA seal. Make sure the RV you purchase is RVIA approved.

7. If you are new to the world of RVs, visit a RV show. A RV show is the perfect way to become acquainted with a vast array of RVs at one time. You can speak with experts, and maybe even take one out for a short test drive.
