Yosemite Chapel

Yosemite Chapel

What could be more romantic and solemn than a wedding at a historic chapel surrounded by the most magnificent view of nature?

The Yosemite National Park boasts of numerous wedding locations. Each offers varied settings, but all are equally astounding, nevertheless. The Yosemite Chapel is one famous wedding venue. It is distinctly situated in the majestic Yosemite Valley, adding colors to the already breathtaking area of the park.

The Yosemite Chapel, which has a charming New England style, is the park's oldest structure. Its construction was funded by the California State Sunday School Association. June 7, 1879 marked Yosemite Chapel's first service. This little church was crowded with people as it was a venue of the National Sunday School Assemble. The Yosemite Chapel was a place of several other memorable events. Ulysses Grant, former President, had memorial services held in the Yosemite Chapel when he died in 1885. The world-renowned composer, Sir Arthur Sullivan was the organist during the service.

The Yosemite Chapel was relocated in 1901, from its former site near the foot of the four-mile trail, to its present location which is in the Yosemite Valley. There have been renovations done on the Yosemite Chapel around the year 1965 to keep flood waters from getting in. However, even if it was raised about five feet off the ground, it wasn't enough to stop the flood that happened in January 1997. Hence, the Yosemite Chapel had to undergo restorations again. All efforts to restore the beauty of the chapel paid off when it became part of the National Register of Historic Places on November 12, 1973. As the oldest building in the park, the Yosemite Chapel was also the first structure to be included in the register.

The Yosemite Chapel has been a witness of several momentous occasions. It was and is still is a favorite venue for couples who wish to exchange marriage vows or to renew them. There are also other services offered by the chapel. They have Sunday Worships and as well as Mid-Week Services. To know more about the services, you may visit their website at www.yosemitevalleychapel.org.

Wedding at the Yosemite Chapel is like having coffee with your morning paper. Both go well together, that it is not such a wonder that it is the most sought-after wedding venue in the Yosemite National Park. The chapel can accommodate up to 125 people, perfect for those who are expecting a lot of guests. The ceremony is not restricted to a single style. The Yosemite Chapel holds traditional or otherwise, and casual or formal wedding services.

With the company of lush greens, splendid waterfalls, and breathtaking cliffs, weddings in the Yosemite chapel are what dream weddings are made truly made of.
