Heaven on Earth- Yosemite Valley

The need to escape from the everyday pressure grows as people continue to strive and devote themselves with too much work. Stress is one of the reasons why people seek solace in places that offer relaxation and stress-free activities. People explore different areas to unwind, and take some time to refresh their burn-out status. One of the best places of relaxation is the world-famous Yosemite Valley.

The Yosemite Valley is situated in Sierra Nevada of California. The area covers the distance of only 7 miles (11 km) in length and about 1 mile (1.5 km) in width. At the top edge of the granite cliffs, more than six creeks fall down from suspended valleys. These creeks measure 3000-4000 feet (900-1200 m) in height just above the valley floor. The valley floor is measured at 4000 ft (1200 m) above sea level. It is the centerpiece of Yosemite National Park. John Muir describes it as a place where everyone can rest and be in a peaceful mode. It is a refuge where nature itself heals and uplifts souls which are abused by the growing pressures that surround the busy world. It is one pure haven that fits for an escape from the everyday hassles of life. Its natural beauty is a charm that draws anyone's attention. People can get acquainted with nature as the scenery is blessed with lakes, streams, mountains and trees. It is perfect for a total relaxation moment.

The geological structure of the Yosemite Valley is composed of rocks which are granitic in nature. When the Sierra Nevada was uplifted, the rocks are ultimately uncovered at the surface. It was later modified by erosion. For over 30 million years, glaciers have gradually filled the valley. As a result, the glaciers widened the area of the valley. The occurrence of other natural activities like steam erosion and mass wasting also led to its widening.

The floor of the Yosemite Valley includes an environment abundant of several species of plants, grasses, wildflowers and insects. It has been claimed that more than 400 species of grasses and wildflowers and thousands species of insects are found in the valley. Large open meadows give life to the beauty of the landscape and serve as habitats for the species.

Because of its attractive view and fine atmosphere, the Yosemite Valley has been visited by more than 100 million visitors to stay and enjoy its wonders. James Hutchings (who organized the first tourist party to the Valley in 1855) along with artist Thomas Ayers, is responsible for much of the earliest publicity about in Yosemite, creating articles and entire magazine issues about the Valley.

The Yosemite Valley is the best suited vacation spot for nature-lovers and a haven for overly-stressed individuals.
