Yosemites Tuolumne Meadows

Yosemite's Tuolumne Meadows

Do you wish to avoid the throng of people at the Yosemite Valley? You don't have to wait the next season just to experience climbing in the Yosemite National Park.

Yosemite's Tuolumne Meadows has its share of routes that will take you on top of several domes. Although Yosemite Valley has bigger walls than that of Yosemite's Tuolumne Meadows, the latter is still home to numerous trails with varied lengths, that all make for a great climb.

The elevation is Yosemite's Tuolumne Meadows is about 8619 feet, and because of this, climbing activities are restricted to the months of June until August. There are a lot of major domes in the area, such as: Stately Pleasure Dome with route high at 400 feet and takes about an hour to 2.5 hours to climb; Lembert Dome which stands 800 feet; Polly Dome with ending elevation at 8,350 feet and about 3 miles one-way; Daff Dome which can be climbed at an average of 2-4 hours with route height at 700 feet; Fairview Dome's 900 feet route high takes about 6-8 hours climb; Pothole Dome is a miniature version of the Lembert Dome which is highly accessible to kids; Mariolumne Dome; Tenaya Peak has a gigantic route height at 1500 feet and requires about 5-7 hours climb time; Medlicott Dome can be reached within 2 hours average with route height at 610 feet; and Pywiack Dome with a height route at 400 feet, takes about 2-4 hours of climb.

Following Tioga Road takes you to Yosemite's Tuolumne Meadows. This road is about 39 miles, located amidst forests, lakes, meadows, and granite domes. The Tioga Road, built in 1882 till 1883 to serve as a mining road, was renovated and given a modern-look in 1961. It provides passers-by one of the most beautiful views in the Yosemite National Park.

Yosemite's Tuolumne Meadows is around 55 miles from Yosemite, which is equivalent to a 90-minute drive. One of the most distinctive features of the area is the Tuolumne River. This winding river compliments the existence of splendid peaks and breathtaking domes in Yosemite's Tuolumne Meadows. Access to the area is provided through a journey along the Tioga Road. However, this road is closed to all types of vehicles except during the summer. This does not mean that Yosemite's Tuolumne Meadows is off limits throughout the rest of the year. There are actually ski huts available that are mostly used by skiers.

Climbing in Yosemite doesn't just mean being in Yosemite Valley. The park has other areas that offer fascinating features as well. Yosemite's Tuolumne Meadows is just one of the many areas that make it possible for people to enjoy the same activities at different "levels".
